Measuring a round umbrella canopy
Your umbrella will have 6, 8 or 12 ribs. 8-panel umbrellas are the most common.
You will need to open your umbrella so the cover is taut.
• Measure Dimension A, the overall length from tip to adjacent tip
• Then, measure B, from tip to the very center of the upper hub - this is the point where the finial is fastened through the cover.
• Measure the small opening C - this is often just a brass grommet, but it could be as large as 2 to 3 inches. It is the opening allowed for the finial to pass through the fabric.
• Finally, measure D, the size of the umbrella rib, as illustrated below.
Mark down the measurements and send to us using our Quote Request link to the left.
If you no longer have the cover, proceed as follows:
• Crank or push the umbrella frame open to the upper stop. If it doesn't have a defined stop, bring the lower hub to the position where it previously rested when the umbrella was open (this is usually indicated by some wear on the umbrella pole)
• Lead a string around the perimeter of the umbrella - use tape to hold the string in place on the end of each rib. Adjust the ribs sideways so the distance from tip to tip is approximately equal. Make sure the string has no slack, and mark the length. This is the length of the perimeter.Divide by number of ribs (336" perimeter on an 8 rib umbrella gives 42" for dimension 'A', the bottom of the pie-shape)
